Desert Botanical Garden

Today, we visited one of my favorite spots in Phoenix–the Desert Botanical Garden. Got lots of ideas on desert plants for the backyard.

One thing I came away with was to get at least three or more of each plant. It looks much lusher and better to group similar plants together, rather than just one of a specimen. So far, my fave is the prickly pear because I like the oval shapes.

We’ve been working on our back yard, which was completely empty when we moved in.   So far, three citrus trees have been added–orange, tangelo, and lemon. They’re tiny, and it’ll be awhile before we get any fruit, but just having green trees is a good start. No grass to mow anymore–people use rocks here for a base, filled in with desert cactus, succulents, bushes, etc. It’s a refreshing change from what we were used to in Nebraska.
